Billing Information
In today's economic climate, people who require legal services understandably are concerned about the prospect of soaring and unpredictable attorney's fees. Our combined experiences and the structure of our firm enable us to offer top notch legal services at competitive rates. We proudly are a small law firm, so we do not have the overhead or billing pressures that are typical of much larger firms. We have enough experience and flexibility to offer a range of fee structures that we believe will compensate us fairly while ensuring the highest quality of representation.
- Contingency Fee. Because we often bring cases as plaintiffs, we are very familiar and comfortable with the contingency fee arrangement. That is, if we win a verdict or negotiate a settlement, our fee is paid out of a percentage of the total recovery. Our clients are only responsible for expenses (filing fees, deposition transcript costs, etc.). In wrongful death or severe personal injury cases, if there is no recovery, we generally waive expenses. While the contingency fee arrangement historically has been used most often in personal injury cases, we encourage institutional clients to consider this form of attorney compensation as well in commercial breach of contract or business tort cases. Under this fee structure, we assume the vast majority of the risk.
- Flat Fee. This is as simple as it sounds. In litigation cases, we can provide you a flat fee at each stage of the process, from filing or answering the complaint through discovery, dispositive motions, and trial.
- Mixed-Fee. A mixed-fee arrangement is a combination of the contingency fee and flat fee. We ask the client to pay an initial flat fee to cover a limited amount of attorney time. In the event we obtain a recovery on the client's behalf, we are compensated by a reduced contingency fee.
- Hourly. Under an hourly fee structure, we bill the client by the hour. We ask the client to pay an initial retainer (security deposit) that we will hold in our trust account. We will bill against it until it is exhausted, and if it is not, we promptly return the balance.
